I'm Karan, a family photographer Melton families come to for portrait sessions, generations shoots, kids and milestone photography, first birthdays and cake smashes. I work on location across Melton and the western suburbs of Melbourne, in homes, parks and a few favourite outdoor spots that suit families perfectly.
What I Photograph as a Family Photographer in Melton
A family photographer in Melton has the privilege of meeting families in chapters of their life that mean the most. The first photo together as a family of three. The first walk in the park as a family of five. The grandparents' visit from interstate. The retirement party. I take that responsibility seriously, and I keep the work calm, slow and image-led so the day actually feels like a day with your family rather than a performance.
Here's what I cover.
Family portraits. Your immediate family, in a setting that means something to you. Could be a backyard, could be the local park, could be a favourite cafe. I plan around the youngest member's nap window and the oldest member's stamina, and I keep the session short enough that everyone leaves on a high.
Generations shoots. Three generations or more in the same frame. These are some of my favourite shoots because the in-between moments are gold. Grandparents holding babies. Cousins running. Aunties laughing. I always make sure we get the formal lineup early and then let the rest unfold.
Kids and individual portraits. Personality-led shots of children, on their own and in pairs. I shoot at their pace, get down to their eye level, and let them lead the rhythm.
First birthday photography. A milestone shoot for the year-one celebration. We can do a proper sit-down portrait, a relaxed party shoot, or a combination across the day.
Cake smash photography. The classic. A controlled chaos, planned around your colour palette and styled to your taste. I bring patience and a good sense of humour.
Milestone shoots. Engagements, anniversaries, retirements, big birthdays. Anything worth marking with a real picture.
I welcome families from every community and I'm comfortable working with multi-generational and culturally specific celebrations. Wherever your family is from and however you celebrate, you're welcome here. The session works the same way. We talk, we plan, we shoot, we have a good time.
If you're expecting a baby, a maternity sitting often pairs nicely with a follow-up newborn shoot. The maternity photography Melton page has the maternity details and the newborn photography Melton page covers the post-arrival sittings.
How a Family Photographer Session in Melton Works
A family photographer session in Melton with me runs on a calm, predictable rhythm. Here's how a typical shoot unfolds.
Pre-shoot chat. A short message exchange or call. I want to know how many of you there are, the ages of the kids, any sensitivities (a shy teenager, a grandparent who tires easily, a baby who's still feeding every two hours), and the kind of feel you're after. I'll suggest a location if you don't have one in mind.
Wardrobe note. I send a short prep guide with what works on camera and what to avoid. Nothing prescriptive, just a few principles. The what to wear for a family photoshoot post covers most of it in more detail.
Shoot day. I arrive ahead of time, settle into the location, and meet you when you turn up. I let the kids warm up to me before we start shooting. We move through formal lineups early, then loosen into candid frames. Most family sessions run forty-five to ninety minutes depending on group size and the youngest member's mood.
Edit and delivery. I curate the strongest frames, edit for a warm and natural feel, and deliver via a private gallery. You get web files for sharing and high-resolution files for printing. Most families order an enlargement or a small album from the gallery.
I shoot at a pace that suits children rather than adults. That means short bursts, plenty of breaks, snacks if needed, and a willingness to follow the energy in the room. The best family photos almost always come from the moments after I've said "we're done", which is usually when the family relaxes properly.
Where I Meet Families Around Melton
I'm based in Melton and work as a family photographer in Melton across Melton, Melton South, Melton West, Taylors Hill, Hillside, Caroline Springs and the wider corridor. I travel out to Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Truganina and Tarneit for sessions on that side of the west. I head north to Sunbury, Gisborne and Romsey for families who like a more rural setting.
If you'd prefer somewhere familiar, your home or backyard works beautifully. If you'd prefer somewhere with character, the photographer in Werribee page covers spots in that pocket and the photographer in Sunbury page does the same for the north. For ideas on where to shoot, the best family photo locations in Melbourne's west post is a good starting point with photos and notes from spots I shoot in regularly.
Book a Family Photographer in Melton
Booking a family photographer in Melton is meant to be simple. Send a short note about your family, the kind of session you're after, and the rough timing. Spring and autumn weekends book out furthest in advance, so the earlier you can lock a date the better.
A few things that help me give you a sharper quote. Family size and ages. Whether you'd like a home, park or studio session. Whether the shoot is for a milestone or just a long-overdue family portrait. Any cultural details I should be mindful of, especially for ceremonies or traditional dress.
Get in touch through the contact form and I'll come back to you with availability and a quote.
